NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF SINGLE POINT INCREMENTAL FORMING FOR ASYMMETRIC PARTS

Single point incremental forming (SPIF) that will produce non-symmetric sheet metal parts has been rarely dealt with so far. SPIF of a Francis hydro-turbine vane made aluminum alloy is studied as typical example in this work. At first, concave geometry, encompassing the desired shape designed, from which formed part be ultimately cut out. The necessary toolpaths are created by using CAM software normally used for milling processes. Based on these toolpaths, finite element simulation setup shell elements particular emphasis substantial time scaling and due care tool-sheet contact parameters. For validation purposes was manufactured digitized white light scanner. It exhibited tolerable deviation targeted nominal geometry. Simulation predicted significant deviation, proving its indispensability checking out process parameters parts, yet at non-negligible computational time.
